Jesus, You Were Born Today

Jesus, you were born today
To sweep our cares away.
What mystery as you lay
In that little bed of hay!
Who can ever say
If you knew the price you’d pay
On Calvary that day
For we who’ve gone astray?
Little could your parents know
Where you’d have to go.
What a life they did sow!
With joy, they’d see you grow.
A quiet little baby boy
Filled their hearts with joy,
With no thought of tomorrow,
Or Gethsemane of sorrow.
Jesus, you were born today
To sweep our cares away.
What mystery as you lay
In that little bed of hay!
Only the Father knew
What was then foretold for you.
So hush your little cry
As Mamma sings her lullaby.
There’ll be time enough to sigh
And ask your question why
You must go this heavy way
Because you were born today.
Jesus, you were born today
To sweep our cares away.
What mystery as you lay
In that little bed of hay!
